Leaving Cert Composing Course
8 week digital course – melody writing
This Hybrid Course includes live Q&A sessions which can be taken in person or online.
Step by step method will give you confidence in answering Question 1 on the Composition Paper.
We will cover :-
working within a key
understanding the implied harmony
how to structure phrases
how to use motifs
how to shape a melody
modulating to another key

The Course consists of
Monday – weekly video lesson and assignment
Feedback on assignment submitted during the week
Saturday – weekly live session which you can attend in-person or online focusing on any questions arising from the lesson or assignment
This is the equivalent of a weekly 2 hour lesson with the additional benefit of being able to review the material over and over.
As there is a live feedback element in the course it runs over a specific 8 weeks although you can of go through the video content at any time.

Sightreading for Trad Musicians
10 week digital course
Are you more comfortable learning by ear than reading music ? Are you completely reliant on tabs or ABC notation? If so this short course is for you.
Improve your sight-reading and gain access to the tunes in the Great Collections. (O’Neill’s, Bunting, Breathnach). Increase your options for learning and creating music by learning to both read and write music in staff notation.
This course is an introduction to sight-reading music in the pitch range commonly used in Polkas. By the time you complete the course you will be comfortable sight-reading straightforward Polkas. You will have composed your own Polka and transcribed it in staff notation.

Assignments wks 5-8
A live workshop in weeks 4 , 9 & 10 which you can attend in-person or online. We will work on any questions arising from the lesson or assignment and do some work together.
This is the equivalent of attending a weekly lesson with the additional benefit of taking your journey with other like minded people and being able to review the material over and over.
As there is a live feedback element in the course it runs over a specific 10 weeks although you can of go through the video content at any time.
